I appreciate the information given in this blog post regarding the pros and cons associated with a rental property. Some people often think that investing in a rental property assures steady cash flow to the investor. However, buying a rental property is a very stressful job as it needs regular maintenance. In my point of view, a person should hire a property management company to deal with those situations and reduce the stress associated with such kinds of investment.

Unless they have extended family or some equally strong reason to specifically live in Myrtle Beach, I strongly advise against. Between Hurricanes, horrible headlines from various “Bike Week”s, and how it’s a Human Trafficking hotbed, they might be better off a bit more inland, or if you’re set on the beach, look at Charleston or Folly areas. We do have a strong Chinese presence in SC. My children actually attend a Chinese Immersion elementary in West Columbia learning Mandarin.

I think you made the right decision. There’s better investments out there for sure. Seattle certainly has been in the middle of a boom, but these capital appreciation rates won’t last forever. It’ll come back down to normal eventually.

In reply to Will. No, no, that's not true. You can literally eat sushi every day there. When I visit, I tend to have sushi/sashimi at least once a day. It's cheap and high quality. Probably the best sushi place in Seattle is about as good as a cheapo 100 yen sushi shop there.

All of this post spoke to me, Lily. We sold one rental last year and are in the process of selling the second (and final) one now.

It comes down to us just not really wanting to be landlords, in our heart of hearts. It really is not for everyone.

And getting a little cash profit ain’t too bad, neither. 🙂

Best of luck with the family stuff, which I know can be stressful.
